Tour Bus
A tour bus is any kind of bus service vehicle that transport passengers sightseeing with designated routes around tourist attractions, inclusive of entire cities, regions, states, provinces, national parks, entire countries and specific points of interest. Charter buses, vans, minibuses, double deck buses and or trolley buses are commonly used because of their excellent viewing capabilities and passenger capacity to carrier small and large groups of sightseers. There is no such specific vehicle type as a Tour Bus.

Tour Bus Types and Functions:

Charter Tour Bus:
A charter bus sometimes called a tour bus is a relatively common vehicle used as a tour bus. Normally these large 45-61 passenger vehicles are used for long over-the-road sightseeing trips as well as all day local tour trips. These “tour bus” vehicles are generally fully equipped with bathroom, wired or wireless PA Systems for the tour guide, reclining velour seating, overhead luggage, under carriage luggage bays (for long touring trips), overhead a/c controls, reading lights and pull down curtains to name but a few amenities.

Mini Bus and Midsize Bus:
A mini tour bus sometimes called a mini coach is another relatively common vehicle used as a tour bus. These smaller vehicles are generally used for local day trips and daily excursions. There are minibuses and midsize buses that are built for over-the-road trips, but generally speaking these vehicles are best used for short haul and daily trips due to their stiff suspension and chassis type of manufacturing.

Trolley Tour Bus:
These unusual vehicles are also known as trolley bus, trolley coach, trackless trolley, double deck trolley, open trolley, trackless tram or simply trolley. Some trolleys such as the ones used for mass transit in San Francisco, California, are electric buses that draw their electricity from overhead electrical wires suspended from above street lines using spring-loaded trolley poles. Two wires and poles are generally required to complete the electrical circuit, which normally uses the track as part of the electrical path and thus needs only one wire and pole. Trolley tour bus vehicles have become popular for half-day sightseeing tours within cities. They have also gained popularity as a “party bus” vehicle. Trolley buses are seldom if ever used as a long haul tour bus because of the construction and cost factors involved with manufacturing.

Van Tour Bus:
Vans are technically classified as a bus when they seat 12-15 passengers inclusive of a commercially licensed driver. Anything larger than 15 passengers would be classified as a minibus, charter bus or other type of bus. Vans are heavily utilized as bus tour vehicles for smaller groups especially where larger buses are not allowed into areas such as residential streets and the like. These tour bus vehicles are sometimes used over-the-road for multiple day tour trips as well.

As you can see, there are many ways that all types of vehicles are used as a “tour bus”. Bus tours offer quite a few benefits. Those who avoid the idea of bus tours out of fear of traveling with a host of strangers, being restricted to a set schedules, or having a lack of accommodations, should re-think their conception of what a tour bus actually is. There is more than simply meets the eye with the modern day tour bus.

A tour bus provides an easy and trouble free way for people to view their surroundings, cities and country. Although some people may be fearful of being “packed” into a tour bus, this is generally the farthest thing from the truth as these vehicles are roomy, comfortable and safe. Bus tours offer plenty of options to suit almost any taste.
